Easily create disk image files for content distribution, and automate the process for creating updated DMGs so that it only requires a single click
You don’t need third-party software to create DMG files, as this is easily done with Apple’s Disk Utility. However, if you want to quickly update a disk image’s contents for new releases, the process is slowed down because you need to configure the same settings every time.
DMG Master was designed to help you automate most of this process once the initial disk image has been created. When you need to make an updated DMG, just open the original project file and a new disk image will be built using the same sources, which have presumably been updated.
Automate DMG creation using project files
When setting up the first project, you will need to add all the files you wish to include in the disk image. The easiest way is to just drag and drop them in the main UI. Then, select the desired compression level and, optionally, encrypt the created DMG file. Lastly, select the output location.
The final option, to make a disk image on document launch, is perhaps the most interesting one. If you select it, the app will build a new disk image using the same settings whenever you open the saved project files. It will add files from the configured location and use identical settings to create an updated disk image. This reduces the entire process to a single click.
Great time-saver for simple DMG creation
It’s worth noting that DMG Master lacks some advanced features that would be of particular interest to software developers. You cannot customize the design of disk images, add license agreements, or code sign your DMGs.
As a result, this app is perhaps best suited for archiving data, creating backups, securing content, or preparing files for sharing. If that’s what you need, DMG Master will certainly deliver, and considering how much time it can save with repetitive tasks, it’s certainly not expensive.
